Wow That Employee!

Everyone has probably heard that you have less than 10 seconds to make a good first impression. That's the reason most candidates come to an interview on time, looking professional and prepared to both ask and answer interview questions. Fast forward to the successful candidate's first day on the job - what is their first impression of you and the company? What message are we sending when workspaces are not cleaned up, laptops are not ready and email has not been set up for their first day? It has happened to me - and I am sure it has probably happened to you too. Most leaders would agree that finding the right talent is one of the biggest challenges that companies have. And while thousands of dollars are spent on recruiting the right candidate, there is often little or no focus on the initial onboarding experience - leading to new employees second-guessing their choice of employment. As leaders, we don't want to have to be continually recruiting for the same role. The next time you have to hire someone, think through the entire process - and the impression you want to make for them on their first day of employment. Wow that employee in the same way that they wowed you to get the job!
