Make it Count

I have had the great pleasure of working with some incredible leaders in my career. One of the things that I have noticed is that a great leader is not necessarily the one who shares the most in a meeting. In fact, some of the smartest people I know tend to be a little reserved in big groups - but here's the thing: while the quantity of what they offer may be light, the quality is second to none. I have found that when they do share, it's often the most insightful and well-considered comments of the meeting. While the rest of the group may be posturing (and you know what I mean here, there is always one person in a meeting who seems to talk just for the sake of talking, often restating the obvious), the smartest one in the room is observing and formulating ideas based on what they see. So the next time you are in a meeting, pay attention to the quietest person in the room - they might just have the most to offer.
