At the All Star break this year, the Toronto Blue Jays were nothing special - and no one was talking about them and the World Series in the same breath. Fast forward to September and they now appear to be unstoppable. What changed? Well, they added a few new players including an elite starter in David Price. But the real change came from inside. They started to believe in themselves - and with that, came the wins.

So, the lesson for the rest of us as managers? Create the belief in your employees that they can be successful - and watch how things turn around.

Most employees want to do the right thing - they want to hit their target, they want to win the contest and they want to receive your accolates. The most important thing we can do as managers is help instill the belief in themselves that these things are within their reach. Take the time to get to know your each one of your team members and what makes them tick. Coach to their strengths and help them develop in those areas where they need to. Help them create a roadmap to success. These are the things that will instill in them the belief that they can be successful.
