I don't know - can you help me? Simple words yet so powerful. As a leader, I truly believe that one of the most important qualities you can possess is humility. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to admit when you don't know something, or that you made a mistake or that you need someone's help. As leaders, our first inclination is often to hide behind the mask of leadership and not admit these things. Leaders are always supposed to know what to do, right? Yet I have found that in those times when I have been able to take a deep breath and be honest with my team and admit that I don't know something, I have been rewarded in spades! In those defining moments, I have had the opportunity to see members of my team rally to go above and beyond to help me figure things out - opportunities that I would have missed had I forged ahead on an uncertain path. So, when faced with uncertainty and needing help, repeat after me: I don't know. Can you help me?
